Which part of the holiday season is overwhelming to you?

For me it’s the shopping part!

Before I had kids, my husband and I often practiced a Buy Nothing Christmas. But I became a scrooge when I tried to apply that to family life. “What about the magic!?”

So I’ve had to balance my disgust of the consumerist “holiday” and my already overflowing home with the willingness to receive on behalf of family who enjoys giving.

One of our compromises is to give and request gifts of experience rather than stuff.

With this in mind, I have avoided adding to the noise of BUY NOW! Yet, I do want to give you and your families or friends the chance to shop local, support small business and give the gifts of experience.

The world is changing at an exponential rate which can send our nervous systems out of bounds. There is so much that we love that is at risk of being lost. And yet we must continue to expand our capacity to love.

GROUNDING
In order to affect positive change in the world, YOU must be well first. You must be grounded and You must know who You can turn to. Panic, Anxiety, confusion, numbness, shut-down. When you know where you are, you can begin to move from that place back to safety.

CIRCLE
We will sit together in a contained and safe space to listen and share. This is more than a place to share your grievances. It is a place to listen to your heart and bring forward your wisdom and gifts for the benefit of the community.

MOVEMENT
From talking to moving - we must learn to decode the messages of our bodies and allow the energy to move freely. If you feel stuck you will learn to activate. If you feel Panic you will learn to slow down. For whatever arises you will learn tools to bring you back to center.

As mother Circle convened again this fall, I am re

As mother Circle convened again this fall, I am reminded of why I do this work. And the mission that I am on: to prepare women for labor, birth, and motherhood. It sounds a bit trite or perhaps even unnecessary since our bodies were “made to do it.”

What I mean by prepare is not just stretching the body, practicing “comfort measures,” and having all the gadgets and diapers that you need.

I want you to have the resource of inner wisdom so that you know how to listen to your body’s needs or attune to your baby at any given moment. This is something the vast majority of us need to learn or practice.

I want you to be prepared for the affront to our personal autonomy while birthing in the medical system. It sounds combative, but when you are prepared and know what you are up against, you don’t have to go in with guns slinging, you can go in with inner authority and the right support people.

I want you to be prepared for the utter and complete breakdown of the Self, on spiritual and archetypal levels. I want you to see birth as an initiation and the level of preparation and surrender that is required.

I want you to know how to rest. How to ask for help. How to receive support.

I want you to know that no matter how different you think you are from everyone else, that everything will change for you. Everything. That doesn’t mean everything will go away, but everything will be required to be different.

I want you to see other new mom’s experiences so that you can learn from them. So that you are not blindsided by the reality of motherhood in modern culture. You don’t have to be because these messages are out there.

But you have to have the ears to listen!

I don’t want you to be caught off guard. I want to help you build some scaffolding for the new life ahead.

Ultimately, I want you to be prepared so that you can thrive. And when you thrive, the whole world wins.
